Appropriate integration of technology across different sectors can increase efficiency and productivity, improve healthcare access and support education, as well as streamline public services. These technologies are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Governments can benefit significantly by embracing these developments. OKO creates innovative tools to distribute insurance in remote areas and to unbanked farmers. These tools include:

  1. USSD menu that allows farmers to manage their policies from any mobile device.
  2. A mobile app, which provides a second-to-none customer experience and is usable offline.
  3. An API that lets partners (micro-finance institutions, for example) access relevant information securely

  • OKO was awarded in November 2019 the International Award during the Climate Finance Day by Finance for Tomorrow. This recognize OKO’s positive impact as a financial tool to adapt to the consequences of Climate Change
  • In 2023, Allianz renews its partnership with OKO to bring climate insurance to small and large African farms.

Description

Description

Description

In Rwanda, Zipline started delivering blood and medical products but soon extended to food, retail, agricultural products and animal health products. Zipline is able to perform long-range delivery in addition to home deliveries.

In Rwanda alone, Zipline has been able to serve about 4,000 hospitals and health facilities, delivered about 13 million vaccines where needed, accounts for transporting 75% of the national’s blood supply.

Description

E-blood bank Makila

Description

E-blood bank is an application that interconnects blood banks and pharmacies on a platform to allow hospitals and pharmacies to geo-locate blood bags or medications, buy by phone using electronic money and have them delivered quickly by drone or motorcycle for rapid patient care.

Partners with the Ministry of Health and is certified by the Ministry of Digitalization.

Description

Description

An online platform that allows users to access a database of healthcare facilities in the country; including information about the services offered, medical specialties available, type of insurance accepted, and contact information.

This is an initiative in partnership with Tigo, specifically targets low and middle income households, and aims to provide health insurance to Tigo customers whenever necessary.

Description

Rocket health has a variety of services:

  1. Rocket health wallet: a mobile-money service that allows individuals to save money that would be used for health-related expenses in Uganda.
  2. Remote Doctor consultations: connects doctors to individuals via SMS and phone calls.
  3. Mobile Laboratory: allows users to request laboratory tests to be done in the comfort of their home. Lab professionals come to the patient’s home and collect blood samples and then the results are shared electronically after a consultation with one of the Rocket Health physicians.
  4. Mobile pharmacy: allows people to order prescribed medication to be delivered to their house.

Description

An online platform that allows individuals to access doctors, pyschologists and wellness experts via a mobile app or phone call.

Description

This platform links pregnant women to healthcare providers through their mobile phones. Additionally, during COVID-19, in Kenya, this platform added a set of arms that ensured continued accessibility and good-quality care during the pandemic. This included emergency ambulance services during curfew hours, SMS messages to inform pregnant women of labor and complication signs, etc.

Description

goMediCAL is an application that aims to improve access to health care. The app allows users to access a list of doctors and clinics, make appointments with health professionals for themselves or others. It also enables users to share their medical records with doctors and pay for consultations.

A mobile application via which the patient makes an appointment with one of the 300 doctors present on the platform, pays for their consultation or asks a third party (diaspora or not) to pay directly online via the usual electronic payment methods (card banking, Mobile Money), holds a secure digital health record, and accesses the list and contacts of ambulances, pharmacies and geo-localized health centers.

Description

Description

In addition to their application system, Shule System provides electricity, computers, and internet connection to schools that use their services. The application is currently used in 24 schools and by 6232 students and 2250 parents.
