Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program: Senior Research Fellowship

The Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program is inviting applications for a Senior Research Fellowship. The successful candidate will provide research support to Her Excellency, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former President of Liberia, in developing and preparing for publication a personal memoir reflecting on her tenure as President. This is a rare and special opportunity to work directly with a former head of state with an historic track record in government, and the first elected African woman President.

The Fellowship will be for a period of six months and will provide:

  • Monthly stipend appropriate to the qualifications of the successful applicant.
  • Travel and lodging to be determined on approval of a proposed budget.

Applicants should preferably be Ph.D. graduates, but other graduate-level qualifications will be considered. Previous research experience is important. Prior knowledge and/or experience of Liberia would be a significant advantage. At a minimum prior experience and knowledge of Africa is required. Applicants must:

  • Be able to spend an extended period in Monrovia, Liberia (although large parts of the work might be done in the U.S.).
  • Demonstrate high-level research, organizational and writing skills.
  • Be rigorous and disciplined in their work.
  • Be self-motivated and resourceful.

Applicants must submit a detailed CV including two references with knowledge of applicant’s research experience, as well as a cover letter spelling out specific qualifications for this Fellowship and personal motivation in applying for this special opportunity.

The deadline for applications is September 15, 2018. If you are awarded a Fellowship, additional documentation will be required, including but not limited to Budget proposal, Vendor set up forms (W-9 or Foreign Individual Vendor Request Form), Travel Risk and Release form, Global Support Services Travel Orientation materials, and Harvard Travel registry. International students will have to consult with the Harvard International Office regarding eligibility, visas, and other requirements.
